In my Drawing I class, which I took in Fall 2023, we were tasked with creating a self-portrait using charcoal and white charcoal pencils on an 18" x 24" grey paper.
The twist was that when we got our photos taken to use as a reference, we had to pose with an object in a unique way. For my self-portrait, I chose to use a paper plate with a smiley face design, as a play on my last name, and also to depict the idea of hiding one's true self behind a mask.
